When thinking about entering
the world of Motorised Paragliding several options are available: 1. Purchasing a new unit. Paramotors nowadays are being made
with numerous accessories such as means of advancing and retarding
timing etc, which will relate to various applications. 99% of
pilots will never need these advances. Unlike conventional aviation,
more power here means more height. (When used in conjunction with
a speed system power may be used to gain slightly more forward
speed). One still in essence is a paraglider and the engine is
only there to take the place of leaping off a mountain and searching
for lift. Many pilots even with electric starts never use them,
as much of the time due to various factors it may not work! So my recommendation for choosing a paramotor as
outlined in my book “An Insight to Power Paragliding” revolves
around SIMPLICITY, and ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENTS. DON`T BUY SOMETHING
YOU DO NOT NEED, however buy a unit that WILL cater for your requirements
and ensure spares are readily accessible from your supplier.

2. Purchasing a 2nd hand unit.
Usually this is quite a good option, provided you are aware of the history behind the set up. Fortunately a 2-stroke engine is usually a simple affair and even if certain replacements are required they are simple enough and cheap to have done. What is important is PRICE and the accessories required such as a TUNED PIPE for heavier pilots and other minor bits and pieces such as two Vs four piece frames, size of fuel tank and upgradability.
